Internationally Renowned Sashar Zarif is a multi-disciplinary artist, educator and researcher. His contemporary practice is steeped in the artistic and history of traditional and ritualistic performing arts of Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia. Focusing on the Sufi-Shamanic ritualistic practices of these areas he has formulated a dance medium, Mugham, an integrated practice of dance, music and storytelling, and a creative approach, Moving Memories that is based on memory studies. During the last two decades and across 41 countries, Zarif has worked to promote cultural dialogue through intensive fieldwork, cross-cultural collaborations and performances. His is the recipient of Chalmers Fellowship, Uzbekistan’s Master of Dance, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal.
