Biography

Srijani Bhaswa Mahanta is currently a student of Politics with specialisation in International Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her areas of interest include gender, religion, border and territoriality studies, and modern Indian political thought. She is an accomplished Sattriya dancer and is empaneled with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. She is from a Sattra, which is a Vaishnavite monastery in Assam, herself. She has acted, choreographed and sung for the National Award winning film ‘Yugadrashta’, and assisted in direction and written the screenplay for the documentary ‘Rebellion Bejeweled’. Apart from Sattriya dance, she has acted in ‘Ankiya Bhaona’, the Vaishnavite form of theatre. She had conducted a workshop series called ‘Sahanartana’ for the non-Assamese population of Delhi at the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, New Delhi and a lecture demonstration on Dance and Communication at Ashoka University.
